The Caixa d'Enginyers Foundation collaborated this weekend with the first # SinPlástico patrol on Barceloneta beach to raise awareness of the pollution generated by marine litter.

What does this initiative consist of?

The # SinPlástico patrols, which are part of the Ocean Initiatives volunteer program of Surfrider Spain, consist of groups of volunteers who come together for the organized cleaning of beaches and oceans to raise awareness of the pollution generated by marine litter.

In this sense, aware that environmental protection becomes more important with the passage of time, the Caixa d'Enginyers Foundation has joined this initiative, as it has among its priorities the protection of the environment and work to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote sustainability.

The first # SinPlástico patrol was organized on Saturday, May 11 and managed to collect and identify at the end of the day more than 10 items, among which the following figures stand out: 5,353 cigarette butts, 1,593 plastic fragments, 159 bottle caps, 87 straws or chopsticks, 82 cotton buds, 65 cans, 45 polystyrene fragments, 43 beverage trays, 40 food containers and 29 glass fragments.

This collection was possible thanks to the collaboration of more than 100 members and employees, in addition to having the collaboration of eco-influencers, opinion leaders in sustainability who, under the claim #ENsuciasoTeEnsucias, involved and raise awareness in your network of influence. These were: @carlotabruna, @dulcineastudios, @alexboisset, @mikelboisset, @aroundsilvia and @marinabuedoyoga.

This action, carried out in Barcelona, ​​was the first of the 6 that Fundació Caixa d'Enginyers will carry out in alliance with Surfrider throughout the year. The next one will be on June 8 in Valencia and are also planned in Alicante, Tarragona, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca, after the summer season.
